GSI DEVELOPS EMBLEMATIC PROJECTS OF ESVAL

Regarding the mega drought suffered by the north central area of the country and particularly the Valparaíso Region in the last 10 years, the utility ESVAL planned an emblematic project to face this challenge of nature.

Conceptually, the project consists on using the AROMOS Reservoir to feed its Drinking Water Treatment Plant at the time of maximum consumption by the population and replenishing this reservoir from its facility in Concón with waters from the Aconcagua River in the season of less consumption.

This project's horizon is to be able to supply the inhabitants from Concón to Curauma with normality until the year 2040. Indirectly, the supply of the entire Greater Valparaíso (Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Concón, Quilpué and Villa Alemana) is favoured in this period, since resources are released from the sources that supply the cities of Quilpué and Villa Alemana.

The project was divided into 3 major works, namely: Project 1: Capture of water from the Reservoir for shipment to the Concón Plant. Project 2: Pipeline from the Limache estuary in the Reservoir area to the Concón Plant. Project 3: Water catchment from the Aconcagua river to send to the AROMOS Reservoir. GSI developed projects 1 and 3, at the Detail Engineering level.

The works of Project 1 became operational in the second half of December 2020 and were inaugurated by the Minister of Public Works in the first half of 2021.
