The construction of the first module of the Atacama Sea Water Desalination Plant (PDAM), located in Caldera city, which will provide drinking water to the Chañaral, Caldera, Copiapó and Tierra Amarilla communes has already been completed. This first module has a capacity of 450 L / s, to culminate in a total capacity of 1,200 L / s built in three stages. The works have been developed by Econssa.
GSI prepared the Conceptual Engineering of the maritime works of this project, the presentation and processing of the maritime concessions for the Sea Water Intake and Brine Outfall pipes, as well as the Environmental Impact Study of the entire project, including pipes for more than 80 km and three pumping stations, which culminated in obtaining their respective Environmental Qualification Resolution.
The first stage is already in operation and the Plant is delivering drinking water to Caldera and Chañaral cities, waiting to finish the works to reinforce the pipelines to Copiapó, to start the delivery of drinking water to Copiapó and Tierra Amarilla at the beginning of the second semester of this year.
The total investments of this project, with the 3 stages built, are estimated at 250 million US dollars.
